The Mechanical skill point can be obtained in The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 (PC and Mac). (In the Sims 3 the Mechanical Skill was replaced by Handiness). Sims can receive a mechanical skill point by either studying it (Sims 2 and Sims 3) in a mechanical skill book or fixing broken appliances (such as showers and televisions). In The Sims 2, not only will having a higher amount of Mechanical skill points increase their speed of fixing broken household items, it can help them advance in many careers and if 'Open For Business' is installed, allow them to obtain the Toy Making and Robotics Talent Badges.
